H-D has unveiled the new Milwaukee 8.

Big honking motor with 4 valves per cylinder. Still pushrod.

Only available in the touring models to start.

I know I know these engines are big displacement pushrod modern marvels. In stock trim these motors always seem (at least on paper) to be poor performers. What is the appeal? Is it that they have a lot of torque across the power band? How much does this thing weigh? In general do these guys offer up a performance version without having to add a "performance kit at an extra 3 large for these big twins? I don't know. It is a nice looking motor.

Instead of HP wars we have displacement wars.

The 114 is bigger than the Indian 111.

I wonder how long it will take until we see these in the smaller Dyna and Softail lines?

Cycle World's website has a huge amount of detail on the new engine. They also posted info from Kevin Cameron on each generation of HD v-twin. They even had ride reviews on 2017 bikes with the new engine.

H-D also included a single counter-balancer in the motor even for rubber-mounted models.

They left a certain amount of vibration in the bike because customers do not want zero vibration.

My Guzzi has the same idea. It shakes a little at idle but is glass smooth at speed.

This was a comment from the MO board on the new motor.

I thought it was pretty clever.

You'd have to be a Knucklehead to Pan this new design which Shovels a load of Evolution on the Twin Cam to come up with something that Milwaukee thinks is grEight.

That's a FHAct.

I hate it when workers get laid off. I'm not a Harley guy but genuinely feel for the workers. The Then Came Bronson Sportster is really the only H.D. I would own. Well, never say never.
